Simple Licensing
What is a Simple License?
Our simple license is a license that covers you for almost every situation. It’s not limited by computers, viewers, users, location, or any other metric. Just select the license based on the size of your company (based on yearly gross revenue before expenses), and you’re covered for nearly everything!
How many licenses do I need?
For almost every case, the answer is just one!
Why use Gross Revenue to judge business size?
We don’t need an exact number or anything close to it; we’re simply looking for a range into which your business falls. It’s the most equitable way we can come up with to determine a fair price for our fonts. À la carte pricing can be too difficult to manage and company size based on the number of employees still leaves a lot to be desired—companies with the same number of employees can have immensely variable revenue depending on their industry or location.
By pricing based on gross revenue, we can provide a fair price based on the value provided by the type.
We do not share or sell any of the information used during the purchase process.
What if I’m a designer/studio, whose revenue do I use?
If you’re buying the type for your studio, the price would be based on your organization size. You can then use the type for any of your clients but you can’t send them the font files unless they have a license that matches the size of their organization.
Can I modify your typeface?
Yes, to an extent; you can modify letterforms for a logo or for internal use but you can’t generate or distribute modified versions of the font without our consent. If you want to modify any of the fonts in font editing software, contact us for the additional license, or ask us to do it for you.
Can I use your typefaces on the web?
Of course. Or simple license covers web usage on an unlimited number of websites with an unlimited number of users, provided all the domains are owned by the licensee.
You can also purchase a traditional web and desktop license that is based on the number of views per month. If those views are exceeded for a period of three consecutive months, you’ll have to upgrade your license.
Can I use your typefaces in my App?
Yes, our simple license covers you for an unlimited number of applications provided they are all owned by the same licensee. If you want to use the fonts in OEM software or software that allows the design if static documents or images, contact us before ordering to work out any licensing arrangements.
Can I use your typefaces across Social Media?
Yes, our simple license covers you for social media with no regard for follower count or whether the use is static or dynamic.
Can I broadcast your typeface in an advertisement, show, film, or stream?
Yes, our simple license covers you for broadcast usage with no limitation based on audience size or location.
What if I need to license your type for more users or a different situation than your store allows?
While our store does offer a multitude of options, if you’re looking for something that isn’t covered, contact us and we can put together a license that fits your need.
Traditional Licensing
What is Traditional Licensing?
This is the way to license fonts that most people are familiar with. Choose the uses you need. Maybe you’ll never need to worry about using the fonts in an application or for broadcast; just buy the desktop & web license and you’re good to go.
How many licenses do I need?
Select the license size based on the metric provided at checkout. Usually, that’s the average number of views or downloads for websites and apps, and the number of computers the font gets installed on for desktop licenses.
Can I modify your typeface?

Trial Fonts
Do you offer trial fonts?
Yes! Just go to the Trial Page to access and download a subsetted version of our entire catalog.
What are the restrictions on trial fonts?
Use them for mockups, or whatever you want. Just don’t use them on the web, in an app, or for simple work.
Are the trial fonts different?
The character set in a trial font is much smaller; there are no accented characters, small caps, alternate numerals, etc. Just A–Z, a–z, 0–9, and some basic punctuation.
Discounts
Do you offer discounts?
JTD type is rarely discounted. That being said, We do offer discounts for schools and non-profits; all you have to do is contact us.
Do you offer student licensing?
Yes! Contact us and we will set you up.
Website
What is your privacy policy?
We don’t collect any data or use any sort of analytics. Cookies are used for the shopping cart. All personal information collected during a purchase is not distributed to any third parties.
What fonts are you using here?
We are using Oculi for most things (such as this text), Elfreth for titles, and Parabolica as our sans serif typeface.
How do I access the fonts I’ve purchased in the past?
Select the account link at the top menu, enter your email and you’ll receive an emailed link that will give you access to your purchased fonts. If you purchased your font on our old store system, please contact us and we’ll be happy to send them to you.
