Those that know me are more than aware that I’m obsessed with craft. This is why I was excited when Chautauqua Woods first approached me about redesigning their logo. Chautauqua Woods started in 1990 with the goal of building “handcrafted doors and entryways”. Now their doors are used by the likes of Princeton University and many other prestigious Institutions and residences.
For the design of the logo, I wanted to create something that reflected the dedication to craftsmanship and reflected the historical nature of many of their commissions. To that end, I decided to base the lettering on Baskerville (among others), as he was not one to shy away from craftsmanship.
The mark itself is a monogram of “CCW” (which is what the company is usually called). It was decided that a monogram would be best so that the identity could be carried into collateral material such as door plaques.
